About Tripod
Tripod is one of the most popular and distinctive musical comedy acts in Australia. They are doing for Australian comedy what Skyhooks did for the Australian music scene in the '70s.
“We encourage people to laugh at us. We're silly and geeky and very uncool.” It is this attitude and approach that has placed Tripod in the 'New Generation of Comedy' bracket with the likes of Merrick and Rosso, Peter Helliar, Corinne Grant, Rove McManus and Wil Anderson.
But Tripod are a lot more than a fast paced, high energy, musical comedy act, they are the classic comedy trio in serious danger of making musical comedy cool. They tell jokes, they sing songs, they include onstage antics with power tools and go to great lengths to poke fun at each other.
Their show is escapism into a world where current affairs and issues don't really play a part. For Simon Hall (a.k.a. Yon), Scott Edgar (a.k.a Scod) and Steven Gates (a.k.a. Gatesy) Tripod has been a three and a half year venture that began in the shopping malls of Melbourne.
Busking led to exposure and eventually a stint on national television. This television exposure pricked the ears of nation and resulted in sell out shows at three consecutive Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, the Lavazza Comedy Award at 1997's, Comedy Gala and rave reviews at the 1998 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
From there it has been onwards and upwards. Triple J listeners have been taken with the silly yet brilliant songs they came up with in their Song-In-An-Hour segment on the breakfast show.
They've also been on television as, part of the team in the Ten Network sketch show Skithouse, which they ended every week with a song. They are also regulars on Rove Live.
