About The Penguins
No matter what your event, The Penguins are the ideal choice for your musical needs. They can offer everything from stylish and discreet ambience played with vitality and energy to more upfront performances to get your party really swinging. Their repertoire ranges from the classics and evergreens to more up-tempo swing jazz and Latin.
If you require Gipsy, Irish and European flavours they are only too happy to add it to their program. Their Dance Band extends the evening into Rock and Roll from the 50s, 60s and 70s if needed.
The Penguins was formed by violinist Derek Davies in 1985 with the aim of drawing together Sydney’s finest musicians to create an exceptionally versatile ensemble. Since then Derek and The Penguins have performed in Sydney’s finest venues and social functions for Sydney’s high society.
Among the more memorable performances was a residency at The Conrad Hilton in Cairo for The Australian Embassy and a South-East Asia, The Middle East and Italy.
The group also specialises in entertaining the in-bound tourism market and has performed for overseas visitors on cruise boats on Sydney Harbour and at events at Fort Denison and Taronga Zoo. The Penguins alter-ego, the ever-popular Sunup Bush Band, plays traditional Australian/Irish music at woolsheds and at events for tourists.
It’s not surprising that The Penguins has over many years earned a reputation as a most professional, reliable and easy to get along with ensemble.
