About Tom Burlinson
Tom Burlinson has had a long and illustrious career in show business which all started after a decision to apply at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) as opposed to studying law, a career that was more to his father's taste than his. To Tom's surprise he was accepted and he has never looked back.
In 1981 his career break came when he was cast as Jim Craig in The Man from Snowy River Jack Thompson and Sigrid Thornton. This movie is still to this day one of the highest grossing Australian movies ever. In 1991 Tom sang the voice of the young Frank Sinatra in the Warner Brothers mini-series Sinatra, produced by Frank's daughter, Tina.
On return to Australia he created a show in tribute to Frank Sinatra entitled Frank: A Life in Song. The show is essentially a concert in a theatrical setting, divided into two acts. During the show Tom sings more than 25 songs throughout Frank Sinatra's career accompanied by a 16 piece band (an 8 piece arrangement is also available) He doesn't try to impersonate Frank but sings very much in the Sinatra style.
Between songs he will talk to the audience providing biographical details and entertaining anecdotes but always focussing on the music of the man. He is also joined at times by two dancers who take the stage for an exciting tap routine to an instrumental version of The Old Black Magic. Towards the end of the show Tom talks about the effect that Sinatra has had on his life and sings a song he wrote in tribute to him called The Man in the Hat.
There is an old saying that some people were born to be on stage and after seeing Tom Burlinson perform you will tend to agree. In 2004 Tom returned to the stage in the lead role of Leo Bloom in Mel Brooks' brilliantly funny musical The Producers.
