About Hung Le
After the fall of Saigon back in 1975, like so many other Vietnamese folk at the time, Hung Le and his family fled his country in a small boat. They were among the original boat people.
But what's just a little different about this bloke is that Hung Le then went on to earn a living making the rest of us laugh at his plight as an asylum seeker.
A man of many talents, Hung is a violinist turned comedian who first made his mark in 1987 as the winner of Hey Hey Its Saturday’s Red Faces and Melbourne International Busking Competition with the clowning, classical troupe 'Como String Quartet'.
He has also been featured in Australian blockbuster films ‘The Wogboy’ ‘Fat Pizza’ ‘SNAK’ and ’True Love and Chaos’.
His first book ‘The Yellow Peril From Sin City’ was released through Penguin. His latest book (released by Random House) is Barry Noodles and DaKillerBs. It's a classic Australian story of a Vietnamese boy with a love of AFL, stage fright and a looming violin recital!
Hung has appeared at major festivals in Australia, UK, Edinburgh Fringe, Juste Pour Rire-Montreal, and Hong Kong. Also stints in Circus Oz, stand up comedy in NY and Hollywood, and Eureka-The Musical.
A constant on Australian television since 1988, Hung has made two documentaries for the ABC and SBS. His overseas television credits include appearances on: CNN, MTV, The Muppet Show, Wow Wow[Japan] and London Weekend Television.
