About Bob Downe
Bob Downe, one of Australia's most loved and enduring comedy characters, is the creation of broadcaster and entertainer Mark Trevorrow. Mark started his working life at 17 as a copyboy with The Sun News-Pictorial, before co-founding cabaret comedy group The Globos.
In 1984 he formed a comedy duo in which Bob Downe was born. Not just a comedian, Bob Downe is a fantastic singer who has developed a unique cabaret-style show, complete with big band, which has toured to sell-out crowds in Sydney, Melbourne, London and Edinburg.
A huge and instant success at the Edinburg Fringe Festival in 1988, Bob has played to larger British audiences ever since, with UK television credits including Bob Downe Under, The 1995 Royal Variety Performance and The Bob Downe Special. Bob has recorded two albums, Greatest Hits (1995) and Jazzy (1997). Jazzy was nominated for a Best Comedy Album ARIA music award.
Mark Trevorrow continues to commute between London and Sydney and has also appeared at Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival and the Auckland Comedy Festival. Back in Australia, 1998 saw the Australian publication of Bob Downes's first book, All Bob Downe. That year he also hosted the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade broadcast for Network Ten. In 1999 and 2000, Bob again hosted the Mardi Gras Parade, a consistent ratings winner for Network Ten.
In December 2000, The King of Kitsch brought his colour compatible wash'n'wear brand of entertainment panache to viewers across the nation through his comedy chat series, The Bob Downe Show on Foxtel.
Bob Downe's continues to tour nationally and internationally to sell out crowds. Bob Downe has released a third album, Huge Hits and has made cameo appearances in the first two series of ABC Television's Kath & Kim.
