About Speaker Brian Goorjian
Brian Goorjian was named as the greatest coach in the NBL's first 25 years in 2003. Has won more games than any other coach in NBL history (407) and coached the Sydney Kings to their first ever NBL Championship in 2003. Brian has won five NBL Championships overall, becoming the first coach ever to win five NBL Championships.
His teams have competed in four other Grand Finals. He has won the NBL Coach of the Year four times (1992, 1997, 1998, 2002) and Coach of the Month award 13 times. His teams have qualified for the Semi Finals or better every season since 1990 and have claimed the Minor Premiership in six of the last eight seasons.
Brian is one of only two NBL coaches (the other is Lindsay Gaze) to have coached more than 500 games. He was the captain of the Melbourne Tigers in their first NBL season in 1984 and worked as an assistant coach with Geelong in 1985.
Brian is current head coach of the Boomers Australian senior men's national team. He led the Boomers to a 3-0 sweep of New Zealand in the 2003 FIBA Oceania Championship. Brian was also Head Coach of the 2004 Athens Olympic team.
