About Margaret Jackson
Margaret Jackson is the Chairman of Qantas Airways. She is also a director of Billabong International, a director of the ANZ Banking Group and a director of John Fairfax Holdings Ltd.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Economics at Monash University, Margaret was employed by Price Waterhouse, after being rejected by some of Melbourne's largest accounting firms, who would not employ women.
Margaret went on to become a partner at accounting firm BDO Nelson Parkhill and in 1983 became the second Australian woman to sit on the board of Telecom, now Telstra.
She has since held directorships with BHP, Pacific Dunlop and the Australian Wool Corporation and has been chairman of the Transport Accident Commission and Playbox Theatre Company. Her other roles include treasurer and director, Howard Florey Institute of Experimental Physiology and Medicine and chairman, Methodist Ladies College.
Margaret was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws by Monash University in 2002 and holds an MBA (with distinction) from Melbourne University.
In June 2003 Margaret was awarded Australia's highest honour: a Companion in the Order of Australia, for service to business and the community.
