About Hugh Mackay
Hugh Mackay is a psychologist, social researcher and writer. He has made a life-long study of the attitudes and behaviour of the Australian community and, for the past 35 years, has been publishing his findings in the quarterly research series, The Mackay Report.
He is the author of ten books, including four bestsellers in the field of social psychology: Reinventing Australia (1993), The Good Listener (originally published in 1994 as Why Don't People Listen?), Generations (1997) and Turning Points (1999). His latest book is Right and Wrong: How to Decide for Yourself.
Hugh is a graduate of the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society, an honorary professorial fellow in the Macquarie Graduate School of Management and a former Deputy Chairman of the Australia Council.
He was one of the founders of the St. James Ethics Centre and is a member of the Sydney Peace Prize Committee. In recognition of his pioneering work in social research, Hugh has been awarded honorary doctorates by Charles Sturt and Macquarie Universities.
He has been a weekly newspaper columnist for many years recently for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age and currently for The Sun Herald and The West Australian.
Hugh is also a frequent commentator on radio and television. Hugh is also the author of three novels Little Lies (1996), House Guest (1997) and The Spin (1999).
