About George Negus
George Negus' 30 years at the forefront of the Australian media has included his unforgettable contributions to two of the country's most successful television current affairs programs 60 Minutes as a reporter and ABC television's Foreign Correspondent as presenter.
After studying arts and later journalism at Queensland University and pursuing a career into his late 20s as a high school teacher, George entered journalism with several years reporting for The Australian and the Australian Financial Review newspapers.
In between, there was a brief stint as a political reporter in Canberra. This led to his first political interviews on the irreverent and highly regarded ABC program This Day Tonight.
George's unique list of interviewees and profiles over the years, national and international, is eclectic. It spans politics, the arts and sport, and includes Bob Dylan, Steven Spielberg, Australian band INXS, Jane Fonda and his infamous interview with Margaret Thatcher.
In his incisive tracking of both the Middle East and Northern Ireland conflicts, he spoke to world leaders and international peace-brokers. He has interviewed many of Australia's Prime Ministers and a myriad of antipodean icons including Cathy Freeman and Paul Hogan, plus many not-so-famous Australians from suburbs and rural areas.
During the fall of communism in the Soviet Union George travelled 13500km by four wheel drives from Vladivostok to Moscow to shoot a documentary and write a best selling book, Across the Red Unknown.
George's most recent television roles include host of ABC television's Australia Talks and George Negus Tonight. He is currently host of SBS Television's current affairs program Dateline.
As time permits, George enjoys conference facilitating as well as corporate and government consulting work
