About Heather Swan

Heather Swan is an accomplished mountaineer, rock climber, BASEjumper, skydiver, author, wife, and the mother of two children and two stepchildren and a former corporate executive.

For the past 15 years she has held senior positions in Marketing and Management in both private and public sector organizations. In 1999, together with her husband Dr. Glenn Singleman, Heather embarked on a highly ambitious project to attempt to break Glenn's World Record for Altitude BASEjumping which he set in 1992 from The Great Trango Tower in Pakistan at 20,000 feet or 6248 metres high.

When she started the project she had never been skydiving or climbed any mountain. The Australian Film Finance Corporation and ABC Television documentary, 'BASEClimb 2 - Defying Gravity' which screened around the world on National Geographic Channel and in Australia for the first time in September 2002, tells the incredible story of how Heather overcame a near fatal training accident and her subsequent terror to develop the physical skill and fitness to take on the world record attempt, all while successfully juggling her family, life and career.

Heather is the author of 'Defying Gravity, Defying Fear' (published by ABC Books), which was recently honoured as a finalist in the world's largest and most prestigious mountain, adventure book festival held annually in Canada

Glenn Singleman and Heather Swan have set a new world record for altitude BASEjumping and Wingsuit BASE by climbing Mt Meru (6660m) in India and jumping from a ledge at 6604m.

After six years of hard work Glenn and Heather are thrilled to have achieved their dream. Glenn describes the expedition as 'the hardest thing he's ever done.' It took 22 days to climb the mountain and prepare the jump site.

The achievement is not only a World Record, it is a world first for women. Heather Swan is the only woman in the world to combine high altitude Wingsuit BASEjumping and mountaineering.
