About Adam Thompson
Adam Thompson came from a small Australian country town and climbed to the top of one of the toughest industries in Australia - the music industry.
With little family musical background and a local radio station that always erred to the conservative, he created his own undeniable image and style with the very successful band Chocolate Starfish.
After two top 10 singles, two top 5 albums and CD sales in excess of 200,000,along with an Australian Music Award for most popular Album. Those years were a heady rush of instant success, nationwide recognition and non-stop touring.
Acclaimed for his powerful voice and potent lyrics, Adam won regular praise as the consummate rocks ‘n’ roll front man. After Chocolate Starfish disbanded in 1998, Adam began a solo journey that was both professional and personal.
It was the beginning of 6 years of introspection. “After Chocolate Starfish I needed to find out what I felt about life,” explained Adam. “When you’re part of a successful juggernaut that steamrolls along it’s impossible not to be affected.
When you remove yourself from that situation, you’re instantly confronted with all your complexities. During his presentation In Search of the Everyday Superstar Adam draws refreshing parallels between his experiences in the music industry with the daily challenges faced by people in business.
In any industry, communication is paramount to success, and Adam recognises that synchronicity and teamwork are intangible qualities that separate mediocrity from star quality whether the goal is a hit song or business success.
In an industry so reliant on pigeon-holing and demographics, Adam continues to defy the rules by refusing to be neatly categorised. That way, he says, he gets to retain his sense of identity while simultaneously reaching a broader goal
