About Sandra Yates
Sandra Yates AO is one of Australia’s top women executives. She is the Chair of Saatchi & Saatchi Australia a major multi national advertising agency, chair of the NSW TAFE Commission Board and the Sydney Writers Festival.
Sandra has broad-based management experience in business, education and the arts, giving her a unique perspective on contemporary communication issues. Anne was one of the first female sales representatives at Channel Ten before being headhunted by Fairfax.
This culminated in her setting up Fairfax Publications in the United States in 1987. Anne has also been successful in the bear pit of Wall Street, where in 1988 with her then business partner, Dr. Anne Summers, Sandra led the second woman-led LBO in US corporate history to found Matilda Publications Inc, which published Sassy and the feminist icon Ms magazines for teenage girls.
They raised $US 20,000,000 on Wall Street and completed the second only woman-led management buy-out in US corporate history. Sandra was also the publisher of Time Magazine from 1990 to 1993.
In 1999/2000 Sandra led the Saatchi & Saatchi research project for the Australia Council for the Arts which culminated in the widely acclaimed report “Australians and the Arts”, which documented for the first time Australians attitudes to the arts.
In 2002 her work for women’s organisations, education and the arts, was recognised when she was admitted as an Officer of the Order of Australia.
What many don’t know about Sandra is that she is also a mother who understands the bosses versus babies juggling act from both ends from her years as a struggling single mother to Chairman of one of Australia’s biggest advertising agencies.
