About Margie McIntyre
“I’m the first woman to winter over at Commonwealth Bay and I’ll probably be the last. It certainly has made me tougher mentally and made me appreciate the simple pleasures like opening Christmas presents or eating a special meal.”
At 35 years of age, Margie McIntyre, from Brisbane, had seen snow only twice in her life when she agreed to spend a year in Antarctica with her husband Don.
Margie worked in Sydney as a registered nurse before joining Don in his Marine Services business, which she has managed since 1982. Margie was also responsible for the management and logistical support of The Goodman Fielder Wattie Bicentennial Around Australia Yacht Race, Don’s 1990/91 BOC Challenge.
She is a qualified pilot and an active outdoor person. Her planning and creative skills have given her a major role in all their projects. Her enthusiasm and cheerful attitude combined with her determination and strength of character lead her to achieve success when tough times prevail.
