About Darren Simpson
Darren Simpson’s resume reads like the “who’s who” of restaurants in the United Kingdom.
After completing his apprenticeship, Darren worked as Chef de Partie under Chef Paul Rankin at Roscoff Restaurant (one Michelin star) in Belfast. He followed this up with 12 months at Le Gavroche Restaurant in London (3 Michelin stars) where he was responsible for the pastry department.
He has worked at Bibendum Restaurant and Fulham Road (one Michelin Star) and for more than two years was Head Chef at the prestigious River Café.
Then in September 1997 he joined Sir Terence Conran as Head Chef, to open his 120 seat Italian influenced Sartoria Restaurant.
At the end of 1999 he moved to Sydney to open his now-famous Aqua Luna Bar and Restaurant at Circular Quay, receiving rave reviews and gaining two chef’s hats in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide.
Darren is no stranger to television. From 2000 through to 2001 he was the resident chef and presenter for Live This on the Ten Network and is currently the resident chef for the Seven Network’s Sunrise.
He is a contributing food writer to the UK magazine, Esquire and has made regular contributions to the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Living pages.
