About Jackie Kelly
The Hon. Jackie Kelly MP represents the federal seat of Lindsay in outer-metropolitan Sydney. In 1996, Jackie was elected to Parliament as the Member for Lindsay. Later that year she was disqualified from Parliament due to her position in the RAAF and entitlement to New Zealand citizenship. Jackie was re-elected in the Lindsay by-election of 1996 with an increased majority.
After the 1998 Federal election, Jackie was appointed the Minister for Sport and Tourism and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Sydney 2000 Games. As Minister for Sport, Jackie directed record funding to community-level sports while still supporting high-performance athletes to the success the Australian team achieved during the 2000 Olympics and Paralympics.
As Tourism Minister, Jackie was also responsible for record levels of funding for the Australian Tourist Commission internationally and the ongoing successful "See Australia" domestic tourism campaign.
Jackie was re-elected in the Federal election of 2001. Soon after, she accepted the position of Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister John Howard, a position that gives Jackie responsibility for outer-metropolitan areas, the National Australia Day Council and the Honouring Women program.
Jackie was re-elected in the 2004 Federal election. To address the work/family balance in her life, she has chosen to be a backbencher. Prior to entering Parliament, Jackie was a Squadron Leader in the Royal Australian Air Force.
Jackie has a law degree from the University of Queensland. She holds a University Blue for her sporting achievements, that include representing Australia in rowing. Jackie is a lover of sports and plays competition hockey with her local team.
