About John Coutis
John Coutis was born with a life-threatening permanent disability that rendered his legs useless. John would probably disagree because to John there are no such things as disabilities or problems - just challenges!
Upon birth, his parents were told that he was unlikely to live, but he did. As John grew the seriousness of his particular challenge became more apparent. While in his teens, John decided to have his legs amputated. He has never looked back.
Sport has always been John's passion and because of it he has achieved what many would believe impossible. He has represented NSW in wheelchair rugby league, able-bodied indoor cricket and was the 1994 national disabled table-tennis champion. He has also played grade cricket and been on to tour South Africa with the Australian Cricket Team as a trainer.
John currently plays representative indoor cricket and competition table tennis. John was invited into the Sydney 2000 Olympic Team Village to support the Australian Team, and in 2001 the Australian Wallabies called on John to boost their attitudes for the final match of the series against the British Irish Lions, winning the deciding Test to secure the series for the first time in history.
Rod McQueen, John Eales and George Gregan have openly acknowledged John for getting the Wallabies over the line. Saying 'John showed us that by believing in yourself, anything is possible'.
As a motivational speaker John has an infectious attitude and an amazing enthusiasm for life. His story is truly inspirational. His direct manner and raw humour are magnetic. John has also written and published his autobiography entitled From the Ground Up.
