About Stuart O'Grady
One of Australia's greatest ever cyclists, Stuart O'Grady have managed to stamp his mark on the Tour de France, one of the world's toughest events. Hailing from a cycling family, O'Grady started his career on the track, winning gold at the UCI World Championships in 1993 and 1995 in the Teams Pursuit. Following a dominant 1994 Commonwealth Games, O'Grady won bronze in the Teams Pursuit and the points race at the Atlanta Olympics. O'Grady moved to road cycling in 1995, signing with European team Gan. 1998 was a breakthrough year for O'Grady, becoming the first Australian since Phil Anderson to wear the leaders yellow jersey in the Tour de France. O'Grady moved to the Credit Agricole team for the 1999 Tour, winning the Tour Down Under in his home state. He went on to compete in the road race at the Sydney Olympics. At the 2001 Tour de France, O'Grady spent six days in yellow and 12 in green. O'Grady moved to Cofidis at the start of 2004 after consistent performances in pursuit of the Green jersey in his previous two Tours. It proved an inspired move as O'Grady completed a fairytale year. Apart from winning a stage of the Tour de France and wearing the Green jersey, he notched victories in the World Cup Hew Cyclassics in Germany, a stage of the Dauphine Libere and the single-day GP Villers de Cotterets. His success then transferred to the track, where he won Olympic Gold in the Men's Madison with Graeme Brown.
