About Jana Pittman
Jana Pittman has taken the athletics world by storm. She is the current World Champion, dual Commonwealth Games Champion and World Junior record holder of the 400 metres hurdles, 2004 National Champion, Australian record holder of the under 18 and under 20 400 metre hurdles and the Commonwealth record holder of the 4 x 400m.
In 2003 she was selected by USA Track and Field News as number 1 in the world for the 400m hurdles and also ranked in the top ten for the 400m. In 2000, at the age of 17, Jana competed at her first Olympic Games.
She placed third in the 400H heat and clocked her fastest time in the third leg of the 4 x 400m helping the team to break a 25 year old Australian record. Most recently Jana was awarded the International Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year and the Telstra Peoples Choice Award at the Telstra Athlete of the Year Awards 2004.
Last year Jana earned Olympic selection with strong performances internationally and was on track and looking forward to the Athens Olympics until a knee injury at training just days out from the Games forced the World Champion to have surgery, almost ruining any chance of Jana competing.
Despite the setback Jana defied the odds to not only run but to make the Olympic final. Although missing out on a medal in the final Jana showed the courage and dedication that the Australian public has come to admire
