About Kevin Sheedy
Kevin Sheedy is one of the Australian Football Leagues most enduring coaches. His coaching has been revolutionary and successful, and it could be said that some of his moves have single handedly changed the AFL.
Kevin played 251 games and kicked 88 goals for Richmond between 1967 and 1979. He was a Victorian representative and was in the Richmond premiership sides of 1969,1973 and 1974. Kevin was the captain of Richmond in 1978 and won it's best and fairest award in 1976.
In 1981 he was appointed Senior Coach at the Essendon Football Club, where he has now coached the club for a record 521 games in 22 years of continuous coaching during which time the club competed in 17 finals series.
During his time at Essendon, the club has competed in 7 Grand Finals and were Premiers in 1984,1985,1993 and 2000. Kevin is the co-author of 5 books including: Sheeds – A Touch of Cunning, Sheeds – Pockets of Greatness, Footballs Women – The Forgotten Heroes, Second Chance Winners and Sheeds - Follow Your Dreams.
Kevin received the Advance Australia Award in 1993 and in 1998 was Honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his service to sport and the community. In 2000 he was awarded the Australia Sports Commission Coach of the Year and an Australian Sports Medal in recognition of his service to Australian Football.
He was also one of 3 finalists for ‘Coach of the Year” in the 2000 Australian Sports Awards, and the Essendon Football Team were judged as the National Team of 2000.
