About Matt Shirvington
Since his first international meet in 1997, Matt Shirvington has had a phenomenal rise in international sprinting and has competed against the world's best, including Ato Bolden, Frankie Fredericks, Dennis Mitchell and Michael Johnson.
At 19 years, Matt had a sensational run at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 10.03 seconds and was thrown into the media spotlight with headlines as Australia's best hope for 30 years.
At 21 years old at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Matt's performance ranked him in the world's top ten 100m sprinters. Matt recently placed 4th at the 2005 Australian Championships, thus securing his inclusion in the Australian Team to compete at the World Championships.
With a combination of natural talent, determination, dedication and experience, Matt has overcome serious injuries and achieved outstanding results. He is modest, dynamic, thoughtful, contemporary and ambitious and he is now focused on achieving all he can within the sport of sprinting, including a "sub-ten" 100m run.
