About Ken Sutcliffe
Ken Sutcliffe joined the Nine Network in 1979 as an offsider to Ron Casey, producing and presenting feature spots on World of Sport. He also began presenting sport on National Nine News a position he still holds and began filling in as co-host on Wide World of Sports and the Today Show.
After seven years as fill in with Wide World of Sports, Ken took over from Mike Gibson as host of Wide World of Sport in 1989. During his time with Wide World of Sports, Ken has covered many major sporting events including the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer in 1994.
He has also hosted three Commonwealth Games for the network including Brisbane in 1982, Auckland in 1990 and Kuala Lumpur in 1998. Although the program Wide World of Sports finished in 1999, Ken still hosts many of Nine's prestigious sporting events that come under the Wide World of Sports banner.
These include the network’s coverage of the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, Australian 500cc Motorcycle Grand Prix and Gold Coast Indy-Car Grand Prix. In addition he has hosted and reported at the Wimbledon Championships and US Open Tennis Championships for more than a decade.
He also hosted the Masters Golf telecast when Tiger Woods broke through for his historic victory. Since then Ken has hosted six more Masters. Ken has also hosted Rugby League Grand Finals and the State of Origin series, as well as the US Open Golf, the Pan Pacific and Olympic swimming trials as well as the World Swimming Championships in Japan.
Ken will also be part of a hosting team for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
