About Loudy Tourky
Since competing at her first Olympics at the age of 17, Loudy Tourky has become one of Australia’s most successful female divers. In 2000 Loudy became the first Australian to win an Olympic medal in diving in 76 years and the first Olympic medalist for an Australian female diver ever.
In 2004 Loudy also won an Olympic bronze medal in Athens. Loudy was a former elite gymnast at the AIS before switching to diving in 1992. At the 2005 World Championships Loudy claimed Australia's only diving medals winning silver in the 10m platform and 10m Synchro.
After finishing a respectable 19th at her first Olympics in 1996, Loudy managed to snatch bronze at the Sydney 2000 Olympics in the 10m Synchro event and earned the Australian Female Diver of the Year crown.
Away from her demanding training schedule Loudy has just completed a degree in Media and Communications. Given the demands on today’s elite athletes this is a remarkable commitment and a true reflection of Loudy’s dedication to succeed on and off the platform.
Loudy is a great role model to all and has never ceased to demonstrate her commitment, ambition, great humility and sportsmanship, composure and modesty.
Now she has her sights set on the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
