About Phil Gould
As a professional Rugby League footballer from 1976 to 1986 Phil Gould played with four clubs: Penrith, Newtown, Canterbury and South Sydney. In 1978 Phil Gould, aged 20, became the youngest captain in the history of the Penrith Rugby League Club.
Ten years later he was the youngest ever coach to lead a team to a premiership win when he steered Canterbury to grand final success in his debut season as a first grade coach.
Aside from his success as a player and coach, Phil Gould is also a commentator for the Nine Network and a columnist for the Sun Herald. Phil places communication, honesty and respect as the cornerstones of his coaching strategy and the ability to have star players understand the importance of teamwork as a major key to the success of any team.
Stressing the importance of good communication and management skills, dedication and, above all, self-belief, Phil warns against the risks associated with complacency in success, advocating a constant search for new ways to increase winning potential
